Tim Hengeveld is the creative mind behind Dinerdate.
Born and raised in Holland in a creative family, creativity was in his blood from the very beginning. Drawing movie and comic sequels as a child, he displayed a great affinity for storytelling.
His dad was instrumental in developing this talent. His paintings are amazing, and his collection of comic books is equally impressive.
In later years Tim moved on to develop his own characters and worlds. He created his first full-length comic book around 2002 called The Majestic Conspiracy, the first part in an ongoing franchise about a New York detective.
But Tim had always been interested in writing comedy aswell. He read a lot of Calvin and Hobbes, Dilbert and Citizen Dog, to the point where he understood their inner workings flawlessly. But he felt he wasn’t clever enough to come up with his own comic.
That was until he discovered the Internet. Inspired by such webcomics as Penny Arcade and PVP, but also the Neurotically Yours and Weebl and Bob Flash cartoons, Tim decided to try his luck and start his own webcomic. And so Dinerdate was born on the eve of 2004, a comic that centered around a man and his dog who hang out in a diner most of their free time. There, they get into wacky situations with the other patrons, which include a bear and a professional frenchman.
